Obituary for Derrick Dee Jarvis
Derrick Dee Jarvis (DD), age 53, passed away peacefully in his home May 14, 2019.
A Memorial Visitation will be held May 23, 2019 from 5:00 to 7:00 pm at Herman H. Lohmeyer Funeral Home, 500 E. Walnut Street, Springfield, Missouri. In lieu of flowers, donations to Springfield Little Theatre Educational Scholarship Program, 311 E. Walnut Street, Springfield, Missouri 85806, in honor of Derrick would be most appreciated.
There will be a Celebration of Life, June 2, Sunday, from 1:00-3:00 pm at Springfield Brewing Company, 305 S. Market Avenue, Springfield, Missouri 65806.
Derrick Dee Jarvis was born May 12, 1966 in Springfield, Missouri. He is survived by his mother, Barbara Jarvis, originally from West Drayton, England. Two sisters, a brother, a brother in-law, a sister in law, four nephews, 3 nieces and two great nieces. Jimmy and Dana Rogers, Willard, MO, Darin and Christy Jarvis, Marionville, MO, Denise Jarvis, Springfield, MO, Chase , Andrea, Henley Ann Renay Rogers, Buffalo, MO, Tyler, Katie, Mira Marie Rogers of Lenexa, KS, Jonathan, Elise and Joshua Jarvis, Marionville, MO. One great aunt, Marjorie Reed of Springfield, MO. Cousins in Texas, and numerous cousins and extended family members in England, and an incredible host of friends all over.
Derrick was a loving, gentle, caring and sensitive man. He had a special gift for making people happy and making them laugh. He was born an entertainer and spent most of his time doing just that. He was an active member of Springfield Little Theatre, MSU Tent Theatre and Silver Dollar City. Derrick was well known for his acting in shows such as Into the Woods, Gypsy, Evita, A Day in Holly wood, A Night in the Ukraine, West Side Story, BABY, Pippin, A Secret Garden, Chicago, Annie, West Side Story, Grease, Celebrate America, Joseph and the Dreamcoat, A Christmas Carol, and his extraordinary part as Edna in Hairspray as well as many others. When he wasn’t singing and dancing he could always be found playing in the dirt. He had an amazing ability to create beautiful landscapes. He loved gardening and planting trees and flowers. His mother Barbara was the main reciprocator but many people benefited from his green thumb.
If entertaining and gardening wasn’t keeping him busy enough, you could find him in the kitchen baking delicious desserts. He loved cooking as well. Every family event, his desserts were always the highlight. He even gifted his nephews with cakes for the weddings. His niece was always blessed with her birthday cakes from uncle Derrick. Those events were his most proud moments. There really wasn’t anything he couldn’t make or bake that wasn’t both delicious and beautiful.
Derrick loved his family and his theatre family, but most of all he loved his mother. There wasn’t anything he wouldn’t or couldn’t do for her. If he wasn’t cooking, baking, planting, applying her makeup, fixing her hair, or choosing just the right earrings for her ensemble, he would be planning and strategizing her next annual Christmas Lights Display Extravaganza, which usually started in October, and it was always spectacular.
God gifted him with countless talents that he used to make everyone around him laugh and be happy. Even in the past couple of years, his serious health issues, never caused him to fail to take care of his mother. Derrick will truly be missed and a deep void is left in the hearts of all his family and friends. Derrick is one of a kind, who can never truly be replaced.
