Obituary for Dorothy Marie Evans

Dorothy Marie Costello Evans passed away peacefully in Springfield Missouri, on Friday November 1st. She was 89.

Dorothy was born in St. Joseph, Missouri on February 15th, 1930. She was the 8th of 10 children to her parents, Peter Richard Costello and Marie Hendrina Wolters. Dorothy graduated from Fontbonne College in St. Louis, and then went on to teach second grade in Springfield. In 1953, Dorothy met the love of her life Dick Evans. They married on February 27 in 1954 and started their amazing life together. The couple had four children, Don, Marie, Susan and Emily, who were all born and raised in Springfield. Along with her beloved husband and four children, Dorothy was graced with 15 grandchildren, and 8 greatgrandchildren.

Dorothy was blessed with a rich and fulfilling life through her Catholic faith and devotion to the Blessed Virgin Mary. She will be remembered for her deep affection to her husband Dick; her long lasting relationship to all of her siblings; her deep love for all of her children, grandchildren and greatgrandchildren; her devotion to her Catholic religion; her enjoyment of traveling around the world with Dick; her warm, delightful and spunky personality and her wry sense of humor; her love and commitment to the Evans Drug Store and the Heritage Cafeteria. Dorothy will also be remembered for the countless hours that Dorothy and Dick spent working in their spectacular garden, decorating their house to the nines for every holiday, and curating each of their rooms with their unique welcoming style. Over the years, Dorothy and Dick hosted countless family events and reunions, hour upon hours of grandkids playing in the pool, and always serving delicious Heritage food. Dorothy will be most remembered for her beautiful smile, vibrant personality, and for touching so many people in so many positive ways.

Dorothy will be reunited in heaven with her beloved husband Dick Evans, her daughter Cydney Marie Evans Bonebrake, and her siblings Mary Slattery, Mark Costello, Vic Costello, Tom Costello, Ed Costello, Janice Hutchison, and Bob Costello.
