Obituary for John Edward Nixon Jr.
John Edward, Jr., son of John Edward, Sr. & Mary L. Lory. Born in Martinsville, IN on November 13th 1930 and passed away of congestive heart failure on January 10th 2019 in Springfield, MO with his wife, all 5 daughters and 3 son in laws at his side.
He leaves behind Joan Nixon his wife of 65 years, his 5 daughters: Mary Kay Rodgers, Vicki Ann Schreiner, Nancy Jo Stomboly, Bonnie Sue Lester, and Laurie Lee Allen. John and Joan have 13 grandchildren: Heather Joan Hoyt, Todd D Rodgers, Julie Ann Schreiner, Jacob Edward Schreiner, Joani Marie Kopecky, Mandy Roee Boyd, Gregory Daniel Stomboly, Dustin Isaac Stomboly, Krista Michelle Madden, Michelle Lynn Ganulin, Robert M Lester Jr, Theresa Joan Deleon, and Amber Gayle Snoek. Along with 28 great grandchildren: Meshalie Renee Rodgers, Colten John Rodgers, Hope Robyn Schneck, Khadija Hasan, Haroon Hasan, Maryam Hasan, Taha Hasan, James Conor Kopecky, Colby Austin Boyd, Braydon Daniel Boyd, Montana Rose Boyd, Della Jo Boyd, Reese Dawson Boyd, Alexis Eve Sanders, Gregory James Stomboy, Max Andre Stomboly, Serena Jane Stomboly, Bellamy Isaac Stomboly, Ian John Madden, Nicholas Seymore Madden, Joshua Archer Ganulin, Avery Micheal Lester, Bailey Elizabeth Rose Deleon, Kaida Autumn Lily Deleon, Arie Gilchrist Snoek, Wendell Dean Snoek plus 2 more at a later date.
John proudly served in the U.S. Army from 1951 – 1953. While stationed in Chicago, he met the love of his life while roller skating. Shortly after meeting, he was deployed to Korea. After he returned from Korea they were married.
Family was always a priority for John and Joan. They always attended band concerts, marching band, sporting events and school functions for the children, grandchildren and even the great grandchildren.
John was an amazing wood crafter and designed and constructed several hundred projects. He also hand crafted over 30 dulcimers, and had a passion for playing his own personal dulcimer.
John was loved & highly respected by all of his children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and many friends. He will be dearly missed by all who knew him. We will remember him every day and get along without him by using one of his favorite sayings “where there’s a will there’s a way”.
Visitation will be held from 6:00-8:00 pm Monday, January 14, 2019 at Herman H. Lohmeyer Funeral Home, 500 E. Walnut Street in Springfield.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 am Tuesday, January 15, 2019 at St. Agnes Cathedral, 533 S. Jefferson Street in Springfield with Father Lewis Hejna, celebrant. Burial will be held at 1:00 pm Tuesday afternoon at the Missouri Veteran’s Cemetery, 5201 South Southwood, in Springfield.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Breast Cancer of The Ozarks, 620 W. Republic Road, Springfield, Missouri 65807 or the American Heart Association, 2446 E. Madrid Street, Springfield, Missouri 65804.
